AEP Southwestern Electric Power Company (AEP SWEPCO) operates in East Texas, the Texas Panhandle, Northwestern Louisiana, and the Western edge of Arkansas. AEP SWEPCO is one of the operating companies in the American Electric Power family. SWEPCO has been providing affordable and reliable electricity to customers since 1912. The company has 520,415 retail customers made up of 441,443 residential, 71264 commercial, 7,164 industrial and 544 public entity/highway lighting accounts. The total generating capability is 5,273 megawatts, however, more electric power is available through the American Electric Power transmission system. Energy production by fuel type (% of total) for SWEPCO-owned and operated facilities is: Natural Gas @ 16% and Coal/Lignite @ 84%. Local headquarters is located in Shreveport, LA.
